Orthodox Church Members Attacked in Kottayam, Allegedly by the Jacobite Faction

 

KOTTAYAM:
In two different incidents, members of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church were attacked in Kottayam on Monday. Marthasmooni Church managing committee member Vattapparampil Jobi George, Kottayam diocese secretary Fr P K Kuriakose, Jomon Meenadam, and Jubi Kurikkadan, who suffered injuries in the attack have been admitted to Government Hospital, Kottayam. It is alleged that members of the Jacobite faction were behind the attack.

According to Fr P K Kuriakose, a four-member gang came by motorbikes attacked Joby George at Kottayam boat jetty by 4.30 pm Monday. Meanwhile, Karamood parish member Juby was attacked at night on the same day. Fr Shaji Pandarakkunnel was attacked while returning from the hospital after visiting those injured. Kottayam diocese secreatay Fr P K Kuriakose urged the authorities to arrest the persons behind attack and initiate steps to stop attack against Orthodox Church members.
