

KOCHI:
Kochi is set to host over 10,000 runners, including 3,000 women, for the GTECH Marathon on Sunday, February 15th. This is the fourth edition of the GTECH marathon and will be the largest ever marathon held in Kerala in terms of participation. Organized by the Group of Technology Companies (GTECH), the marathon will bring together runners from diverse backgrounds, regardless of age, geography, gender or fitness levels. Student community from some of the leading colleges, IT professionals, central & state government employees, defense personnel and corporate members have registered to participate in the marathon. GTECH marathons, held annually, alternate between the two IT hubs of the state – Trivandrum and Cochin – with the running circuit being in and around the two government IT parks – Technopark and Infopark.
The theme of the marathon is ‘No to Drugs, Yes to Fitness’. The purpose of GTECH marathons is to create increased public awareness about the prevalence of drugs abuse in Kerala and its ill effects, especially among young boys and girls. “This is a coming together of more than 1.50 lakh IT professionals of Kerala to sensitize our community the need to make Kerala narcotic free. As a responsible industry body, GTECH takes up emerging social issues that confront our state. The marathon is a reflection of this commitment and complements the ‘Drugs Free Kerala’ campaign rolled out by the State Government.” said Shri VK Mathews, Chairman GTECH.
The marathon will feature three categories of runs – Half Marathon (21km), 10km, Fun Run (3km) – for men, women and children, enabling participants to choose the run of their choice.
Group of Technology Companies (GTECH) is the industry body of IT companies in Kerala and has as its members 250 IT companies comprising of 80% of the IT employees in the state. All major companies – TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, IBS Software, Tata Elxsi, Quest, Allianz, UST, EY – as well as medium and small companies across Technopark in Trivandrum, Infopark in Cochin and Cyberpark in Calicut form part of GTECH.
