“Polymers play a key role in the preservation of ecosystem in the current scenario”, said Prof. Sabu Thomas, M.G University Vice Chancellor.
He was inaugurating the national conference on ‘Current Trends in Polymer Science’ organized by Department of Polymer Science and Rubber Technology of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). “In this era of increased pollution and waste, the topic of recycling of polymers and relevance of biopolymers need to be discussed widely”, he added.
CUSAT VC Prof. R Sasidharan who presided over the inaugural function exhorted the students and researchers of the department to find a scientific solution for the waste management problem plaguing Kochi city. CUSAT alumni and Scientist, C-MET, Thrissur Dr. Seema A winner of ‘Naarishakthi’ , one the highest civilian awards in the country was honored at the function. Prof. A P Kuriakose awards for first rank holders were distributed to Alaka J Panicker(B.Tech) and Hensha Haneefa(M.Tech). Guest of honour Dr. A Seema, Syndicate member Prof. Sunil K Narayanankutty, HOD Prof. Honey John and Co-ordinator Prof. Thomas Kurian spoke.
