IDUKKI:
Kerala Volleyball Academy, set up to impart world class coaching in one of state’s most popular sports, was inaugurated by Minister for Electricity M M Mani here.
The Academy, designed and developed by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs at a cost of Rs 3.47 crore, is equipped with state-of-the art infrastructure for the training of players of different levels for national and international events, besides hosting major tourneys. The Academy can conduct coaching and practising sessions day and night.
The Minister also honoured volleyball players of yester year at the function, held at the exhibition organised as part of the 1000 days’ celebrations of the state government. Spread out on 5 acres in the high altitude terrain, the Academy has three volleyball courts of maple wood flooring, hostel facility that can accommodate 40 people at a time, administrative block and other allied amenities.
The works were executed by the Sports Engineering wing of DSYA. Joyce George MP and elected representatives from the area attended the event.
