Pre-quarter Finals of the Men’s’ Category at the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias TT Championship 2017

It was an evening of excitement as the spectators witnessed the commencement of the Men’s category of the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias TT Championship 2017 held at the Polygon Hall at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias in Miramar.
Sachin Soaresshowed signs of going all the way as he won (11-6, 11-3, 11-1) over Akshay Madye. On the other hand, Suresh Karapurkar was on top of his game right from the start and eventually closed out the game by defeating Gururaj Shetye (11-2, 9-11, 11-4, 11-8).
In the pre-quarter finals Rutuj Sonaware defeated Nathan Barua (11-8, 11-4, 11-8) to reach the quarter-finals and joining him is Nagesh Verenkar as he smashed through with a remarkable score of 11-8, 11-1, 11-6 against Sagar Kulkarni.
Diraj Rai and Pranav Naik played an entertaining draw. Diraj Rai amidst the cheer of fellow table tennis players and family triumphed over Pranav Naik (6-11, 11-12, 11-3, 11-8). Noel Noronha form was strong throughout the competition. Noel Noronha emerged victorious over Suresh Karapurkar scoring a 11-8, 11-5, 11-7 and proceeded to the quarter-finals.
Wesley Do Rosario beat Upender Talavikar with an impressive score of 11-3, 11-5, 11-6; whereas Diljeet Velingkar powered through and defeated Sachin Soares (8-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-4) to proceed to the quarter finals.
Nagesh Verenkar triumphed over Sagar Kulkarni scoring 11-8, 11-1, 11-6 while Manish Yadev beat Shantesh Mapsekar with a score of 11-8, 12-10, 11-7 securing their spot in the quarter finals.
Day 6 of the tournament will see the semi-finals of the U-16 Sub Junior Girls, U-18 Junior Girls, Ladies, U-16 Sub Junior Boys, U-18 Junior Boys and Men’s category.
The event will be an annual fixture on the state’s sports calendar with the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Table Tennis Championship slated to be held in June each year. The sports event is supported by Alcon –Anil Counto Enterprises. The matches are scheduled between 3.30pm to 10.00pm and spread over seven days.
The tournament includes 13 categories – Under 10 Mini Cadets (Girls and Boys), the Under 12 Cadet (Girls and Boys), the Under 16 Sub Junior (Girls and Boys), the Under 18 Junior (Girls and Boys), the Men’s Singles, the Ladies Singles, the Veteran Singles (Above 40), the Veteran Singles (Above 50) and the Veteran Singles (Above 60).
Over the past 80 years under the leadership of various individuals, the club has innovated and improved keeping in the mind the requirement of its members. The club offers facilities for playing badminton, squash, tennis, billiards and tennis within its premises.
