NEW DELHI:
Congress leader and Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday offered solemn tributes to Indian soldiers and civilians who lost their lives during recent cross-border hostilities and anti-terror operations against Pakistan.
In a heartfelt post on X, she mourned the sacrifices of the fallen, stating, “The martyrdom of our brave soldiers during the Indian Army’s action against terrorists and the confrontation with Pakistani forces is deeply saddening.” She named and honoured each of the martyrs: Subedar Pawan Kumar, Sepoy M Murali Naik, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, BSF Sub-Inspector Mohammad Imtiaz, Sergeant Surendra Kumar Moga, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, and Police Officer Raj Kumar Thapa from Rajouri, recognizing them as heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s safety and sovereignty.
Priyanka Gandhi also extended condolences to families of civilians who perished during the conflict. “Many innocent civilians have also lost their lives. The entire country stands with the bereaved families in this difficult time. We will always be indebted to our martyrs and their families,” she added.
Meanwhile, the body of BSF Sub-Inspector Mohammad Imtiaz was flown to Patna on Monday morning. A state-level ceremony was organized at the airport to honour his sacrifice, with officials and members of the public in attendance to pay their respects.
In Andhra Pradesh, hundreds gathered on Sunday to bid farewell to Sepoy M. Murali Naik, who was killed in action during Pakistani firing. His funeral was conducted with full military honours in his native village of Kallithanda, Sri Sathya Sai district, attended by state ministers and Army representatives.
Amid the mourning, signs of stability have begun to return to the border regions. Officials reported a peaceful night across sensitive areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. No drone activity, firing, or shelling was observed, although Indian forces remain on high alert. Educational institutions, as a precaution, will remain closed for another day.
