KOCHI:
Protest meetings were organised following the arrest of Janarogya Prasthanam director Dr Jacob Vadakkanchery in connection with the social media campaign against leptospirosis preventive medicine.
Several prominent personalities from social and cultural fields pledged their support to the protest. Janarogya Prasthanam general convenor K V Sugathan said that Dr Jocob Vadakkanchery was arrested for pointing out that the side effects of Doxycycline, the preventive medicine for leptospirosis. He said that the protest will continue till Dr Jacob Vadakkachery is released from jail.
Arogya Avakasha Vedi general secretary Mujeeb Kokkoor riducled the act of the goverment in arresting Dr Jacob Vadakkanchery. He pointed out that the arrest is undemocratic.
Vadakkanchery was arrested following the directive of health minister K K Shailaja. Health Minister had sent a letter of DGP Loknath Behera stating that Jacob Vadakkanchery had been creating panic among the public about the preventive medicine for leptospirosis through a social media campaign. She said that Vadakkanchery raised baseless allegations by questioning the credibility of leptospirosis preventive efforts.
