THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The city-based Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA), in association with the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India, celebrated Earth Day 2018 on April 28, Saturday.
The event themed ‘Go Green Go Clean’ was held at Gandhi Bhavan. A public lecture by Dr.K.P. Thrivikramji, Former Head, of the Department of Geology, University of Kerala, and a quiz competition were conducted as part of the Earth Day 2018 celebrations.
The quiz competition was held in three categories on topics ‘Natural Resources’, Energy Resources (conventional and non-conventional)’ and ‘Global Warming- its effects’. In the primary level, the team comprising Hrudasree R Krishnan and Divya V S representing Christ Nagar International, won the first prize.
Devanandan A S from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kattakada won the second prize, while the 3rd prize was bagged by the Adarsh S M and Nandana R K from Bharatheeya Vidya Peedom Central School, Parassala. Consolation prizes in the primary level category were awarded to Nallachithan G from Santhigiri Vidyabhavan Senior Secondary School and Arya Devi J L, Akshay V V from St.Theresa’s Convent GHSS, Neyyattinkara.
Hrudaya R Krishnan and Hrudayesh R Krishnan of St. Thomas HSS came first in the secondary level category. The team comprising L S Nandan and Surya Nandha R, Bharathiya Vidya Peedom Central School, Parassala won the second prize while Adheena S S and Sivarenjini G B of Prem Nazir Memorial Govt, HSS, Koonthalloor won the third prize. Abhimanya M S, Akash K S of Bharatheeya Vidyapeedom Kurumkutty; Nandha Gopan G of LV HS Karoor, Pothencode and Sreehari J R of GHSS Navaikulam won the consolation prize in this category.
In the senior secondary level competition, Anoop A S and Sanjay Krishna S J representing Govt. HSS, Kulathummel, Kattakada, won the first prize. The second place in this category went to Arunima L Sathyan of Govt. Girls HSS Neyyattinkara and Harishma Hari of GHSS Bharathanoor. Abhisek L S and Vaishnav S bagged the third prize for Victory VHSS, Olathanni, Neyyattinkara. Devika C S and Gayathri S S representing the Bharatheeya Vidyapeedom Central School, Parassala won the consolation prize. Certificated and cash prizes were awarded to the winners of the quiz competition.
