RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University –  India’s first and only School of Built Environment – an industry-led academic institution, has introduced its new curriculum with‘ Construction Project Management 4.0’, in response to a strong call from the industry& emerging technologies in the built environment sector. Whether it’s a residential high-rise or a major airport, construction project managers plays the key role throughout the delivery process.

RICS SBE’s uniquely designed course; MBA in Construction Project Management prepares civil engineers and architecture graduates to excel in the role of a project manager, working with a team, often as a project leader. There has also been an introduction of capstone/dissertation projects in semester 3 and 4, which is based on a significant piece of individual research. It has seen a significant increase in the credits for the elective courses along with introduction of new electives in emerging fields/areas.

There is a provision for students to graduate with ‘super-specialization’ in pathways such as procurement and contracts, valuation, sales and marketing, finance and facilities management. Competency based programs design and concept of Notional hours to give students an edge. Keeping in mind the goals at WEF & OECD, RICS SBE has introduced ethics and sustainability in majority of the courses.

Research in emerging areas such as Block chain, 3D printing, BIM, Artificial Intelligence, Smart Analytics have been included as part of new curriculum. Besides this students will learn about practical project management, business management, and construction, sustainability and behavioral aspects of managing projects. Along with this, they will be introduced to digital technologies, big data analytics & CC, building information modelling, AI and cyber- physical system (IOT) in built environment.

This enhanced curriculum was launched to bridge the skills gap by shaping employment ready professionals, exhibit excellence in research and teaching, deliver an outstanding student experience, demonstrate on-going relevance to the industry, retain thought leadership in the built environment sector and produce global professionals with integrity and competence in keeping with RICS standards.

On the introduction of the new course curriculum, Prof. Joseph V Thanikal MRICS, Associate Dean and Director, School of Construction, said, “Construction Management 4.0 and the increasing use of offsite manufacturing are changing the way we build. Our future cities will be the product of tightly coupled, multi- nodal manufacturing systems, incorporating multiple interactions of both social and technological complexity in the construction of our built environment spaces and places. However, traditional approaches to construction management remain wedded to the management of construction elements rather than the complexity of their interactions. To ensure success in the construction of our future cities, a new approach is required. CPM4.0 aims to re-evaluate Construction Project Management (CPM) from complexity perspectives and to develop new 4.0-ready tools accordingly.”
