Table tennis enthusiast were in for a treat as the spectators witnessed fierce battles that took place in the Ladies, U-16 Sub Junior Girls and U-18 Junior Girls categories on the second day of the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias TT Championship 2017.

In the first match Diya Sen over powered Tanisha Parsekar (11-6, 10-12, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8); while Stuti Shivani pushed through and defeated Galya Fernandes (11-8, 11-2, 11-9) to secure their spot in the competition in the U-16 Sub Junior Girls category.
In the U-18 Junior Girls category Simran Kubal played against Sawani Sawaikar. With neither side willing to give in, Simran Kubal won against Sawani Sawaikar (11-6, 10-12, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8) in a hard fought battle. Prutha Parrikar beat Utkarsha Shiwani (11-5, 11-2, 11-9) with sheer determination amidst the cheer of family and friends.
While in the quarter-finals of the U-16 Sub Junior Girls category Aditi Chodankar defeated Janvi Naik Dalal (11-5, 11-2, 11-4) to proceed to the next round. Simran Kubal beat Sneha Mesta (11-7, 9-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8) Taniya Patil over powered Najida Sheikh (11-9, 11-2, 11-3); whereas Sanisha Shetye defended her position by winning against Aalya Arora (11-8, 11-9, 11-4).
Shantesh Mapsekar will meet Aaron Colaco in the finals of the U-12 Cadet Boys category, whereas Senha Mestra will compete against Anushri Naik for the U-12 Cadet Girls title.
Aditi Chodankar, Simran Kubal, Taniya Patil and Sanisha Shetye will meet on July 1st to battle it out for the U-16 Sub Junior Girls title.
Day 3 of the tournament will see matches played in Under 16 Sub Junior Boys category.
The event will be an annual fixture on the state’s sports calendar with the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Table Tennis Championship slated to be held in June each year. The sports event is supported by Alcon –Anil Counto Enterprises. The matches are scheduled between 3.30pm to 10.0pm and spread over seven days.
The tournament includes 13 categories – Under 10 Mini Cadets (Girls and Boys), the Under 12 Cadet (Girls and Boys), the Under 16 Sub Junior (Girls and Boys), the Under 18 Junior (Girls and Boys), the Men’s Singles, the Ladies Singles, the Veteran Singles (Above 40), the Veteran Singles (Above 50) and the Veteran Singles (Above 60).
Over the past 80 years under the leadership of various individuals, the club has innovated and improved keeping in the mind the requirement of its members. The club offers facilities for playing badminton, squash, tennis, billiards and tennis within its premises.
