Shantesh Mapsekar and Nagesh Verekar Enter the Finals of the U-16 Sub Junior Boys Category

The competition grows more intense with the oncoming finals of Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias TT Championship 2017. Table tennis fans witnessed the semi-finals of the U-16 Sun Junior (Boys and Girls), U-18 Junior (Boys and Girls), Ladies and Men’s categories kick off at the Polygon Hall at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias in Miramar.
In the first match, Shantesh Mapsekar covered every inch of the table and gave the fans a treat on his way to the finals. Shantesh defeated Nilay Kamat (9-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-6) in the semi-finals to reach finals in the U-16 Sub Junior Boys category.
Shantesh will battle it out against Nagesh Verekar for the U-16 Sub Junior Boys title. Nagesh played a brilliant match against Jayz Gomes and triumphed with a score of 11-6, 11-6, 11-7 amidst the cheer of fellow table tennis players and family.
While in the U-18 Junior Girls category Prutha Parrikar brought her A game and defeated Sanisha Shetye (11-9, 7-11, 15-13 12-14, 11-8) with a back-hand demonstrating various types of spins throughout the tournament. Prutha will meet Taniya Patil who defeated Aditi Chadaonkar with a remarkable score of 11-6, 11-5, 11-5 in a one sided match.
Over in the second half of the draw, Taniya Patil was in great form as well as he made his way to the finals in the U-16 Sub Junior Girls category. Taniya defeated Simran Kubal (11-2, 11-1, 11-3) securing her spot in the tournament, whereas Sanisha Shetye was competitive throughout the competition. With great determination Sanisha defeated Aditi Chodankar 7-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-5, 11-6 to proceed to the finals.
In yesterday’s Mens category Diljeet Vilengkar proceeded to the semi-finals by defeating Mandar Joshi (11-7, 12-10, 11-4, 11-2). Joining Diljeet in the semi-finals is Dhiraj Rai who played a superb game of table tennis against Rutuj Sonaware. With sheer grit Dhiraj pushed through and triumphed over Rutuj with a score of 8-11, 11-6, 12-13, 11-5, 11-1.
Table tennis enthusiast witnessed fierce competition between Wesley Do Rosario and Nagesh Verekar. The cheer grew louder and louder as the battle progressed. With neither side willing to give up, Wesley fought hard to secure his spot in the semi-finals by beating Nagesh (11-7, 10-12, 11-2, 11-8, 12-10). Manish Yadev shone against Noel Noronha with an impressive score of 5-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-8, 11-2, 13-11.
Day 7 of the tournament will see the commencement of the in Veteran Singles Above 40), the Veteran Singles (Above 50) and the Veteran Singles (Above 60) in the morning from 9.00am onwards, followed by the finals of the Under 10 Mini Cadets (Girls and Boys), the Under 12 Cadet (Girls and Boys), the Under 16 Sub Junior (Girls and Boys), the Under 18 Junior (Girls and Boys), the Men’s Singles, the Ladies Singles which will take place at 5.00pm onwards.
The event will be an annual fixture on the state’s sports calendar with the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Table Tennis Championship slated to be held in June each year. The sports event is supported by Alcon –Anil Counto Enterprises.
Over the past 80 years under the leadership of various individuals, the club has innovated and improved keeping in the mind the requirement of its members. The club offers facilities for playing badminton, squash, tennis, billiards and tennis within its premises.
