KOCHI:
The Federation of Film Societies of India, in association with Kochi Biennale Foundation, will screen seven selected short movies from ‘Insight’ film festivals under the section ‘Haiku’ movies at the 10th edition of SiGNS short film and documentary festival.
Adapting the famous Japanese poetic technique on screen, Haiku movies—a first at SiGNS—are known for their condensed form and screening time of less than five minutes. Thought-provoking and intriguing in its theme, the cinematic aesthetics of Haiku movies are par excellence considering the minimal duration these movies take to visualise the concepts.
‘I wonder Y’ by Jay Jithin Prakash that won the best film golden screen award at the Palakkad Insight film festival is one of the most anticipated Haiku films. The movie questions society’s hegemonic attitude to ‘outsiders’ through an array of faces. ‘Dinosouri’, by Spanish director Daniel Allue, takes viewers into the experienced and solitary minds of the aged, whom we tend to ignore. Other movies in the section are ‘Trading of Objects’ by Hadijeldi (Iran), ‘Inhibitions of a Polar Mind’ by Ravishankar, ‘Njanum’ by Manoj Pattathil and ‘Daham’ by Vipin Vijayan.
The SiGNS film festival also features ‘International Window’, ‘Retrospectives’, ‘Director’s Pick’, ‘Homage’ and ‘Living Legends’ sections. The festival will run till October 2 at the Ernakulam
Town Hall.
