  • South Indian Bank Leads in Women Empowerment

By NE Reporter on March 7, 2026

    KOCHI:
South Indian Bank stands as a shining example of women’s empowerment in India’s banking sector. In line with the 2026 Women’s Day theme, “Give To Gain,” the Bank continues to make steady progress in increasing women’s participation across employment and leadership roles.

Women employees number 4,250 out of the Bank’s total workforce of 9,216, accounting for 46.09% of the employee base. At a time when the average participation of women in India’s financial sector stands at approximately 25-30%, South Indian Bank’s 46.09% representation is significantly higher than the national average. Beyond representation, women are increasingly taking on leadership responsibilities within the organization, with around 30% of the senior executive positions (Senior General Managers) being held by women.

The Bank coordinates its activities with the realization that Women’s Day is not merely a one-day celebration, but a significant step toward women’s empowerment and equality. Aimed at the financial independence of women, the ‘SIB Her Account’ has already garnered widespread attention. It offers premium banking services that encompass financial freedom and comprehensive risk protection through preferential interest rates, free insurance coverage, including a Cancer Care Policy, lifestyle benefits, and financial literacy programs.

The extensive ‘Her Ecosystem’ paves the way for structural empowerment through asset ownership and entrepreneurship. ‘Her Heaven’ home loan offer encourages the purchase of property in women’s names and strengthens long-term asset creation. ‘Her Power’ supports women entrepreneurs through lower interest rates, and one-day loan approvals. ‘Her Milestone Rewards’, linked to HER Debit Cards, increases transaction value and enhances customer engagement.

Commenting on the initiative, P R Seshadri, Managing Director & CEO of South Indian Bank, said: “At South Indian Bank, diversity is not merely a statistic; it is our defining strength. Women constitute over 46% of our workforce and play a vital role across the organisation. Today, 174 women lead branches as Branch Heads, with a notable presence of women in key managerial positions across the Bank. We are committed to supporting their growth both personally and professionally, enabling more women to step confidently into leadership roles. Reflecting this commitment, the Bank has also established 26 all-women-managed branches across the country. As we move forward, we remain focused on fostering a workplace culture where women are empowered to lead with confidence.”
