Rashitriya Janatha Dal (RJD) Kerala State committee has urged the authorities to take stringent action against sexual abuse cases reported in the State, especially in abusing minor girls.
Police arrest
ed six people who allegedly assaulted seven minor girls of an orphanage in Kalpetta in north Kerala’s Wayanad district. The latest incident comes on the heels of the arrest of a priest in the district for raping a minor girl who later gave birth to baby in a private hospital.
It was confirmed by police that two sisters who were found dead in their hut at Attappallam, near Walayar, in a span of two months beginning January were victims of sexual abuse. The post-mortem examination and scientific analysis of the bodies confirmed sexual abuse.
RJD State president Anu Chacko said that when the world is celebrating International Women’s Day on Wednesday, more cases of sexual abuses are reported from Kerala. The number of cases are increasing as the accused are not often given stringent punishment.
It was revealed that many students of the orphanage at Kalpetta in the 12-16 age group were lured by a gang into the shop and subjected to abuse for more than four months. Though the accused will be charged under the protection of children from sexual offices act, it should be ensured that they get the maximum punishment.
