New Delhi: Supreme Court has ruled that divorces granted by Catholic Church Courts have no legal validity.
It said that only civil courts in the country have the authority to grant divorce.

New Delhi: Supreme Court has ruled that divorces granted by Catholic Church Courts have no legal validity.
It said that only civil courts in the country have the authority to grant divorce.

Anyone who remarries after obtaining a divorce decree from the ecclesiastical court( church court) will be committing an offence, the court observed.

Clarence Pais, a Catholic advocate from Bengaluru, had approached the court seeking legal sanctity to the divorce decrees made by church courts.
