Thrissur: The gruesome fireworks tragedy at Puttingal Devi Temple in Kollam which caused the death of 112 people has dampened the spirits of the organisers of the legendary Thrissur Pooram. With the arrest of the management committee members of Puttingal temple in Kollam on charges of ‘attempt to murder’ and ‘attempt tocommit culpable homicide’, the Pooram organisers are reluctant to take the risk.
The organisers of Thrissur Pooram, comprising the Devaswoms of both Thiruvambadi and Paramekkav, have decided to do away with the customary Kudamattam and fireworks and to conduct the deity’s procession using a lone tusker.
The decision, however, is tentative.
Earlier in the day, the Kerala High Court had banned high decibel fireworks at night.
