The Uncertainties in CRZ Should be Resolved: CREDAI

KOCHI:
The technical session in connection with the CREDAI Kerala Statecon 2020 urged the Government to resolve the uncertainties in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notification.

The CRZ in Kerala had damaged the reputation of construction sector. Coastal Zone Regulation could be implemented if there is a correct Coastal Zone Management, they pointed out.Dr A Senthilvel, Advisor, Ministry of Environment and Forest said that there should be a cordial relationship with investors in the real estate sector and Coastal Zone Regulation Authority. There should be a system of mapping and both these sections of people discuss about it and find a solution. The Kerala State Coastal Zone Mapping Authority can play a major role to solve the issue, he added.

Adv P B Sahasranaman said that if the 2019 Mapping is not done in a systematic way, Maradu demolition will continue in 2020 also. There should be transparency in laws and rules and it is the role of the Government to ensure it. He pointed that the 2019 mapping is being done by the same agency who had done the unclear mapping in 2016. If the same agency is doing the mapping, how can we expect a change, he asked.

CREDAI Kerala Immediate Past Chairman Dr Najeeb Zackeria said that there was no transparency in public hearing connected with mapping. Though the officials are well aware of the problems related to CRZ, they are not interested to solve it. The issue which was continuing for the last eight years is yet to be resolved. The Government officials are not ready to discuss the matter which is badly affecting the public, he said.

Ashutosh Limiaye, Senior Director, Strategic Advisory and Valuations, said that when more restrictions are imposed, it will be difficult to implement them. Moderator P Z Thomas said that the Union and State Governments are blaming each other regarding CRZ.
