KOCHI:
Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) today announced launching a pioneering programme that will train 1,000 educated women to start nano startups in a year, taking forward its mission to make workplaces gender-neutral.

Called ‘Kerala Women In Nano Startups’ (KWINS), the initiative seeks to provide knowledge in emerging technologies for females with basic working skills, KSUM said on World Women’s Day. Improved knowhow through the initiative will enable the women to go for better jobs, new business endeavours, promotions and work-from-home option.

Trainees can undergo KWINS programme by sitting home. For those not able to do it, KSUM will provide two incubators or workplaces with the required facilities. Authorities are trying for a public system that will provide job opportunities to those who have done KWINS. The plan is to train 10,000 women under the programme.

KWINS trainees will be selected through social media, alumni organizations and non-governmental organisations. The training will be held at KSUM campuses in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode.

Chiefly, the programme aims to cater to the gig economy, which provides short-term employment. KWINS will thus carry out training programmes for temporary jobs. It will also give training in coding, technical writing, quality assurance of software, testing and contents of digital marketing.

KSUM envisages a resourceful database of institutions that provide such short-term jobs. Besides, a plan is afoot to give KWINS-trained women a public platform for interaction.

KSUM is a nodal agency of the Kerala government for entrepreneurship development and incubation activities in the state.
