  • Workshop on Imagining Resistance in the Time of Fascism

By NE Reporter on February 16, 2026

    KOCHI:
A thought-provoking workshop, titled “Imagining Resistance in the Time of Fascism”, was conducted by Moumita Alam of Panjeri Artists’ Union, in association with ABC Art Room, at the ongoing Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB) here today.

The workshop, held at Aspinwall House, Fort Kochi, engaged participants in critical discussions around the growing influence of fascism and the role of propaganda in shaping public discourse.

Through interactive sessions, attendees explored how language is often manipulated to normalise violence and marginalise vulnerable communities, including minorities, immigrants, and other historically oppressed groups.

Highlighting the urgent need to reclaim language from divisive narratives, the workshop encouraged participants to reflect on and reimagine anti-fascist modes of communication.

Moumita emphasised the importance of unlearning entrenched biases and fostering collective dialogue to counter propaganda and promote inclusive and humane narratives.

Participants from diverse backgrounds took part in collaborative exercises, exchanging ideas on resistance through language, art, and community engagement. The session aimed to create a shared space for critical reflection and creative exploration, reinforcing the Biennale’s commitment to dialogue, inclusivity, and social engagement through art.

A poet and essayist from North Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, Moumita has been actively engaged in literary and cultural movements that explore socio-political themes through creative expression.

The workshop formed part of the Biennale’s ongoing public programmes designed to encourage meaningful conversations around contemporary socio-political issues through artistic and intellectual engagement.
