KOLLAM:
Lauding the ‘Youth Meets Haritha Karma Sena’ initiative organised by the Suchitwa Mission, Local Self Governments Minister M B Rajesh said that youth intervention will have a major impact on the ongoing state-wide waste-free campaign.
Inaugurating the ‘Youth Meets Haritha Karma Sena’ programme at Kottarakkara in Kollam district on Sunday, Rajesh said leveraging youth power is vitally important to ensure the complete success of the ambitious litter-free campaign ‘Malinya Muktham Nava Keralam’.
“Youth is the promise and strength of the future. Harnessing the youth power is vital for realising goals set out by the waste-free campaign,” Rajesh said.
Extolling the services rendered by the Haritha Karma Sena (HKS) members, the Minister said it is the civic responsibility of every citizen to co-operate with them when they are on home-call to collect household waste.
Suchitwa Mission aims at creating a positive impact on the Kerala society through youth intervention and participation, which will make households to comply with civic responsibilities like practising source segregation, making regular payments of user-fee and doing away with illegal practices like littering and burning of waste.
The ‘Youth Meets Haritha Karma Sena’ programme will see 100 young representatives and 25 HKS members participating in each of the state’s 14 districts, with an overall state-wide participation of 1,400 youngsters and 350 HKS volunteers.
The programme aims at enhancing awareness about the exemplary waste-disposal systems for a sustainable lifestyle.
