KOCHI:
Global trader enabler DP World operated the India Gateway Terminal Pvt. Ltd. (IGTPL) has achieved another momentous feat by successfully handling 2.5 million TEU since inception in February 2011. With a 12% increase in volume at the terminal in 2017, IGTPL has proven to be the terminal of choice in South India market.
The terminal has handled over 3500 vessels since operations began, and currently hosts 54 vessels a month. In 2016, IGTPL handled 282 mainline vessels, and achieved a significant volume growth of 22.5%. The terminal has been recognized for providing world class services to customers with high productivity and operational excellence. These record breaking figures have been achieved by the terminal by constantly investing in its IT systems and equipment with advanced and innovative technology. The Terminal Operating System (TOS) has been developed in-house by DP World, and provides real time data for optimal planning and control solutions for the trade. The system has revolutionized container terminal operations at DP World, and IGTPL was one of the first terminals in the country to adopt the TOS.
Jibu Kurien Itty, CEO, DP World Cochin, said, “At DP World, we aim to facilitate trade by redefining the supply chain through faster transit time and by providingdistinguished service to our customers. We have repeatedly set new standards in the last two years following immense market growth with increasing volumes from neighbouring states. I would like to extend my gratitude to the entire team at the terminal, the Cochin Port Trust, the Cochin Custom House Agents Association, and the Cochin Steamer Agents’ Association for the role they have played in this historic achievement.”
IGTPL serves as the natural gateway to the vast industrial and agricultural produce markets of the South & West of India. Improved road and rail connectivity made Cochin Port a preferred gateway for exports & imports from/to the hinterland.
