Dubai Court Awarded DH 10,90000 to Road Crash Victim

An Indian cafeteria worker who suffered serious injuries in a road accident has been awarded 10,90000 (two crore Indian rupees) Dubai courts.

Puthiya Puriayili Siddiq (42) from Kannur District of Kerala state was hit by car driven by a Pakistan citizen on 20 th May 2017 in Dubai at Sheik Zaid Bin Road. Siddiq was rushed to Al –Qassimi hospital Sharjah and later he was shifted to India for further treatment. The driver was attended in the Sharjah traffic criminal court and the prosecution accused the Pakistan driver of causing critical injuries driving recklessly. And the court found him guilty and fined him Dh3000 and surrendered his driving license for 3 months.

The victim’s legal guardian, his brother Subair Puthiya Purayil, Ramangalath Muhammad, Abdul Gafoor, Aboobacker Sidheek, Ap Hasainar and Ap Muhammad who are the relatives of The victim approached legal representative Salam Pappiniserry of Ali Ibrahim advocates and legal consultant-Sharjah to file a civil compensation claim against the insurance company.

The legal office filed a civil suit before the Dubai civil court seeking compensation against mental, medical and physical damages. The lawyer who attended for victim argued that “The victim suffered 100 percent of permanent disability to breath, and walk, and he also lost the ability to control his urination and execution. He requires full time medical care and assistance of others.

The insurance company denied any liability and argued that he has no suffered such injuries stated in the medical report. Hence asked the court to dismiss the law suit. However, after the hearing of both sides the Dubai court ordered the insurance company to pay 10,90000 dirhams to the victim as motor vehicle accident compensation. Legal representative Salam Pappinissery said, “We have approached the Dubai court of appeal to raise the compensation amount.”
