Kochi Sets Another Example with Klean Toilets

KOCHI:
The Klean Toilet initiative was inaugurated today by Dr. K T Jaleel, Minister for Local Self-Governments. The minister keenly inspected the toilet and its features, assessing the possibility of its replication. An initiative by the Better Kochi Response Group (BKRG) the Klean toilet is built in a container, the first prototype was installed in the Azeezia Farm Outlet at Padivattom, Kochi.
The welcome address was made by S Gopakumar, President – BKRG and he spoke of BKRG’s commitment to creatively and effectively resolving social issues and developing Kochi to its fullest potential. On behalf of BKRG, he promised to work towards making these toilets widely available to the public and to manage its maintenance by working with other organisations.
Dr. Jaleel, in his inaugural address welcomed the initiative and reminded the audience that without a clean environment and personal hygiene we cannot truly develop. He also indicated the possibility of installing the Klean toilets across the National Highway to provide comfort for the travelers. With the co-operation of the government bodies, KSEB, KWA etc., BKRG hopes to mass produce the toilets and implement it across Kerala.
Abudul Azeez, Director of Azeezia Farm expressed his pleasure in being part of the initiative and his hope that it gains momentum. Sherly Chacko, Secretary BKRG concluded the ceremony by thanking all the sponsors and attendees and promising to strive for a better Kochi.
Designed by Kumar Group of Total Designers, the toilet utilizes space to the fullest, has an exhaust system that eliminates any possible odor, uses natural lighting to minimize electricity consumption and completely avoids cost of buying or leasing land, construction of a building etc. The toilet also features a vertical garden on the outside in an attempt to make its surroundings greener. Advertisements can be placed on three sides which could generate enough revenue to make each toilet self sustained.
The prototype was completed with the sponsorship of Azeezia farms who volunteered to lend space free of cost, all sanitary fittings were sponsored by CERA as part of their CSR initiative. This initiative is a great example of how the public can productively participate in the development of a state.
