Minister Launches Work on Sports Infra Projects at Parli, Chittur in Palakkad

The Mini Sports Complex coming up the Government Higher Secondary School at Parli will be raised to the status of the Sports Academy, Minister for Industries, Sports and Youth Affairs E P Jayarajan said, while launching the work on the project at Parli in the district today.

On a day that saw two major sports infrastructure projects taking off in the district, Jayarajan also inaugurated the construction work of the Sports Complex at the Government College at Chittur, infusing fresh vigour into the sporting aspirations of the area.

The Government was implementing projects to ensure Kerala’s representation in the Indian Olympic contingent. In order to achieve this goal all necessary measures would be taken, including roping in of foreign coaches, he said.

Stating that the Government was committed to extend all support to excelling sports personalities, the Minister said those who figure in the rank list of sports job quota will be given appointment without delay. Those who are getting job from the sports quota will include alumni of Parli School MD Thara and V V Sobha.

He also announced that Rs 50 lakh would be sanctioned for improving the facilities at the school. K V Vijayadas MLA presided over the function, in which M B Rajesh, MP, was the chief guest. Director of Sports and Youth Affairs Sanjayan Kumar was also present.

The Sports Complex will be developed at 1.75 acre of land at the possession of the Government Higher Secondary School at Parli. For this project, the Government had accorded administrative sanction for Rs 10 crore and the infrastructure funding agency KIIFB had given nod for Rs 6.937 crore. The facility will flaunt a world class mini football court, 200 metres of six-lane athletic synthetic track and a swimming pool with filtration plant.

Later in the day, Jayarajan inaugurated the work on the Sports Complex at Chittur, coming up in 8.53 acres, at the Government College grounds. The Government had given administrative sanction of Rs 14.35 crore for the scheme, proposed in the revised budget of 2016-17 and KIIFB had sanctioned Rs 5.54 crore .

Water Resources Minister K Krishnankutty presided over the function. Director of Sports and Youth Affairs Sanjayan Kumar and people’s representatives from the area were present. The Sports Complex will have a football ground of international standards, multi-purpose courts, one basketball court and a swimming pool.

Both the projects, to be completed within an year, will have all the state-of-the art facilities to impart high quality training to aspiring sports talents and hosting events.

These projects form part of the Government’s ambitious plan of developing modern stadia and sports complexes across the state, giving a major push to sports development and creating improved training facilities for budding talents from the grass roots. They are also meant to increase local community participation in the sporting activities, a key component of the government’s sports policy.
