National Consultation Meet on Fisheries Policy

KOCHI:
A national consultation meet on fisheries policy was held in Kochi on 24 and 25 April 2017 at Kochi. The meet was inaugurated by Devendra Chaudhry Secretary AH Dairy and Fisheries, R Amalorpavanathan, Deputy Managing Director, Nabard, A Ramachandramn VC Kufos also talked on the occasion.
V R Raveendranath CGM, Nabard Kerala welcomed the participants and Dr. P M Ghole, CGM, FSDD, Nabard HO. This was followed by lead presentations by Dr. V VSugunan, Former ADG ICAR, Shri. ApuchandEluri, Dr. P Jayasankar, (Former Director, CIFA), Ravi Kumar Yellanki Vaisakhi Bio-Marine Pvt. Ltd, CH. Srikanth, Eco Smart Aquaculture, Chennai, Ginson George Senior Scientist, CMFRI, Shaji Zacharia,
DGM, Nabard, Abraham Tharakan, Chairman, Amalgam Group, Unnikrishnan P V, Daily Fish, Dr. Ram Mohan, Joint Director, MPEDA, DipakChaudhari, Managing Partner, NISHIINDO Foods, Dr. K KVijayan, Director, CIBA, Chennai.
The stakeholders consisting of farmers, fishers, processors, Govt. officials, researchers, bank officials and NABARD officers from across the country has participated in the meet and had discussions in groups on the following topics:
Inland capture fisheries and Fresh water aquaculture, Open water aquaculture, Marine fisheries, Brackish water aquaculture, Seafood processing and Seafood processing and credit and insurance. The groups came out with recommendations for developing the above sectors. The recommendations were relating to policy recommendations, investment requirements, and regulations, insurance, credit etc.
V R Raveendranath, CGM, Nabard, Kerala in his remarks said that a team of officers from Nabard will be identified to take the recommendations forward.

ng remarks assured that the recommendations would be consolidated and forwarded to the stakeholders for further suggestions and a discussion paper will be developed on these topics by Nabard representatives for taking up with Government of India.
