THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Ace shuttler Parul Rawat, who brought laurels to Kerala by winning the just-concluded Yonex-Sunrise 43rd Indian Masters Badminton Championships in the 35+ Category held at Mapusa in Goa, will represent India at the BWF World Senior Championship 2019 to be held at Katowice, Poland.
The 1983-born Parul, a former Delhi State Senior and Junior State Champion who had represented Indian Railways in major national and state-level badminton tourneys, tasted podium glory by trouncing Sandhya Melashami 23-21, 21-9 in the finals of the championships held from January 28 to February 3.
Parul, who is currently a senior coach at Thiruvananthapuram-based Ajit & Jose School of Badminton where around 100 young trainees learn the sport, had represented Kerala in the championship in Goa. The win in the event ensured to her a ticket for the coveted BWF World Senior Championship 2019. She’s married to Jose George, a former India international badminton player.
