Singers Antony Micheal and Vaiga Udayan Offer Soul-stirring Music at General Hospital

KOCHI:
When professional singer Antony Micheal from Fort Kochi wielded the microphone to deliver a mellifluous performance at the Government General Hospital here today as part of the ‘Arts and Medicine’ programme, he made it sure that his passion for music would bring smile on the face of patients gathered at the hospital premises.
The 189th episode of the weekly programme, organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) at the hospital, started with ‘Manjubhashini’ from the movie Kodungalooramma, originally sung by K J Yesudas, followed by Vellaram Kunninmele.
Antony, who developed his passion for music with a church choir in 1999, dedicates his time to devotional songs and albums. He has sung a song in the Mammootty-starrer ‘Thoppil Joppan’. He also participates in Gaanamelas and has recorded around 70 devotional songs, some of which are followed by many church choirs.
Antony and Vaiga, who were colourfully attired, regaled the audience with three duets. ‘Nee En Sarga Saundaryame’, the evergreen hit number from the 1985 movie, KathoduKathoram, sung by Antony, brought the curtains down on the musical fiesta for the crowd, mostly patients, at the hospital.
Vaiga, a professional singer from Vytila and an alumna of RLV College of Music, Tripunithura started her music career at Kalabhavan Kochi as a singer and has participated in many TV shows.
Each rendition by the duo was savoured by the crowd comprising patients, bystanders and medical staff, who applauded their performances with gusto.
Arts and Medicine programme, a joint initiative of the KBF and Mehboob Memorial Orchestra, is sponsored by CAFS (Casino Air Caterers & Flight Services). It aims at providing solace to patients through live music performances. The programme which commenced in 2014 continues to draw a fair crowd of music lovers every week.
