Singers Rajamony and Shiny Bring Magical Music to General Hospital

KOCHI:
Being a garment designer and a banking professional may be a different ball game to getting up on stage and entertaining an audience, but Rajamony T. V and Shiny Joju seem to manage both with ease as they demonstrated at the weekly ‘Arts and Medicine’ show at the Government General hospital here today.
Rajamony, who is employed at a bank in Chitoor, Ernakulam. and Shiny, a makeup artist and garment designer based in Ernakulam, took a break from their regular jobs and teamed up to entertain patients, bystanders and medical staff in the 226th episode of the musical show organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation at the hospital.
Rajamony is also a member of the ‘Sangam’ troupe based in Kochi and is the inspiration and power behind ‘Sivaranjini’ a devotional music troupe doing programmes at temples around Kochi. Shiny has performed in and around the city, while Rajamony has had the chance to perform in venues outside the state as well.
“The opportunity that I got to sing in ‘Forever Pancham’, a programme commemorating the birth anniversary of the legendary music composer R D Burman in Delhi is a memorable experience cherished by me,” said Rajamony.
“It is also a privilege to be up on a stage like the one here in the hospital and the instant response from the audience is gratifying,” he added.
The two singers crooned a total of 15 soulful songs in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi, which included four duets.
Rajamony opened the concert with ‘Mein Shayar Toh Nahi’ from the 1973 block buster Hindi movie ‘Bobby’, which was followed up by Shiny with the Malayalam song, ‘Cheera Poovukalkumma’ from the 1991 movie ‘Dhanam’.
‘Ilaya Nila Pozhigirathey’ from the 1982 movie ‘Payanangal Mudivathillai’ rendered by Rajamony brought the Tamil touch to the programme, which was predominantly decked with Hindi and Malayalam songs.
The all-Wednesday therapeutic music programme is a joint initiative of KBF and Mehboob Memorial Orchestra, and is sponsored by CAFS (Casino Air Caterers and Flight Services) aiming to provide solace to patients.
