Sports Minister to Inaugurate Thanur, Nilambur Stadium Complexes

MALAPPURAM:
Minister for Industries, Sports and Youth Affairs, E P Jayarajan, will inaugurate the construction works of stadium complexes being set up at Thanur and Nilambur in the district on February 16.

The two stadiums, planned as part of the Government’s policy of developing sports infrastructure across the state to give an added thrust to sporting aspirations at the grass roots, will come up at GHSS, Kattilangadi, Thanur, and GHSS, Manavedan, Nilambur.

P.V. Anwar MLA , will preside over the function at GHSS, Manavedan at Nilambur at 3pm. P.V. Abdul Wahab MP, A.P. Unnikrishnan, President, District Panchayat; and T.P. Dasan, President, Kerala State Sports Council, will be the chief guests at the function.

Abdul Rahman MLA will preside over the function at GHSS, Kattilangadi at Thanur, scheduled at 5pm. E.T. Muhammed Basheer MP; A.P. Unnikrishnan, President, District Panchayat; T.P. Dasan, President, Kerala State Sports Council; and I.M. Vijayan will also attend.

Dr A. Jayatilak, Principal Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs; and Sanjayan Kumar, Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, will attend both the functions.

The Thanur stadium complex, proposed in the 2016-17 revised budget, will come up at the 4.69 acre land of GHSS, Kattilangadi. The stadium has already got an administrative sanction for Rs 19.14 crore and the KIIFB (Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board) nod for Rs 10.07 crore.

The facility will have a football ground with natural surface of global standard, besides swimming pool, 100 M synthetic track, net court facilities for cricket practice and an outdoor volley ball court. The project will be completed in a year.

The mini stadium at Nilambur, also proposed in the 2016-17 budget, will come up at the 6.47 acre land owned by GHSS, Manavedan. It has got an administrative sanction for Rs 17.26 crore and the KIIFB’s approval for Rs 18.30 crore.

The stadium will have facilities like a football ground of FIFA standards, swimming pool, state-of-the-art indoor stadium, six-lane 400M synthetic track, VIP room, media room and players room. It will be completed in one-and-a-half years.
