Cleanliness drive as part of nationwide Swachhata Hi Sewa campaign is in progress in Cochin Port Trust. Apart from cleaning public spaces and road, activities taken up the port include weeding out of old records, disposal of scrap, renovation of toilets, painting of buildings, beautification of gardens and pathways.
Awareness program was held among the passengers of State Water Transport Department boats, tourist boat operators, and tourists at Marine Drive, Ernakulam on the importance of keeping the water bodies clean. A major cleaning drive was carried out on the sides of National Highway in Willingdon Island, jointly by employees of Cochin Port Trust, CISF and students of IMU and banners and boards placed to stop throwing of waste in the area. Vacant land near Kendriya Vidyalaya School playground (about 1000m 2 ) was cleaned by Civil Engineering Department and about 30m 3 debris/vegetation was removed from the
area.
