KOZHIKODE:
The Seeding Kerala event, held as part of the ongoing conclave of the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) at UL CyberPark here on Tuesday , turned out to be a venue for some of the technology startups to find investors.
Unicorn India Ventures on the second day of the event invested in three technology innovations —virtual reality dressing room Perfect Fit, the four-legged spider shaped robot Bandicoot by GenRobotics and SectorQube, which designs smart kitchen equipment—- developed by a group of youngsters.
Bandicoot has set waves in the startup scene in Kerala and it is soon to be pressed into service to clean up manholes in the state, ending the age-old practice of manual scavenging once and for all. Anil Joshi, Managing Director, Unicorn India Ventures, handed over the investment agreement to the founders of these startups.
Perfect Fit aims at textile showrooms, schools and personal usage, according to its founder Iobin Alex George. Using this technology, one can get fabrics cut as per the fashion one would prefer after taking physical measurements. The mirror in it will analyse an individual’s physical shape and health through virtual reality technology, besides instructing apt exercise methods to be in fine shape.
Once it becomes commercially popular, tailoring jobs can be done from any part of the world after taking measurements. Kochi-based Iobin said that a school child’s uniform can be ready in right shape for stitching within 300 seconds after taking measurements. He hopes that this would lead to popular tailoring contracts on a large scale.
Bandicoot is a semiautomatic robotic system for manhole and sewer line cleaning, aiming at complete elimination of manual scavenging for cleaning the manhole. According to the company directors Vimal Gopinath and Rashid, labourers can operate Bandicoot without entering the sewage. “So there is no fear that they would lose their jobs.”
SectorQube CEO Nibu Elias said that the immaculate support of the KSUM made their journey to success smooth.
