By NE Reporter on August 9, 2021

    MUMBAI:
Geocycle India, the in-house waste management arm of Ambuja Cements Limited and ACC Limited, has co-processed about 2 million tons of waste and achieved a TSR of 6% in 2021. Ambuja Cements and ACC have six pre-processing and fourteen co-processing facilities where close to 1 million tons of waste are handled annually and diverted from landfill.

Geocycle is on the forefront of providing circular and sustainable solutions for waste from different industries, municipalities, the agricultural sector and local communities.

Ambuja Cements and ACC each have cement plants with large volume of waste co-processing managing various types of waste streams originating from municipal waste and industrial processes.

Ambuja Cements’ plant in Kodinar in Ambuja Nagar, Gujarat, has been co-processing both solid and liquid waste for almost a decade. Ambujanagar has one of the highest clinker productions in the group at 12,500 tons per day and has been able to achieve a TSR of 7 % in 2021 across all 3 kilns. It has also enabled the state to mitigate the challenges of plastic waste pollution with a very successful model adopted by the state government, State Pollution Control Board and industry.

ACC’s manufacturing unit at Wadi, Karnataka, is one of the largest kilns in the world, producing 14,000 tons of clinker per day. The kiln co-processes more than 600 tons of waste on a daily basis. Wadi co-processes wastes such as plastics and industrial waste, contributing to a TSR of 18% in 2021.
Geocycle, India operates in Goa, Chennai, Noida, Nagpur, Bilaspur, Vishakhapatnam, Trichy, Erode to help manage the RDF generated from both fresh municipal waste and legacy dumps. In 2020, Geocycle India was able to manage close to 5 Lakhs ton of RDF and plastic waste in its various facilities. The companies have focused their efforts towards the Clean India Mission and are establishing partnerships to help contribute to Swachh Bharat Mission.

Neeraj Akhoury, CEO India Holcim and Managing Director & CEO of Ambuja Cements Ltd said, “We are always looking to build and adopt sustainable solutions for a cleaner and greener world. Our waste management arm Geocycle India has been our pillar in driving initiatives and has helped us to co-process and reuse industrial wastes. We safely recover energy and recycle material value inherent in waste, leaving zero residues. Thus, our endeavour helps conserve natural resources and reduces land and marine pollution. Both Ambuja Cements and ACC are working and committed towards becoming a ‘Net Zero’ ”.

Ambuja and ACC have played a pioneering role in managing plastic waste pollution by working with various cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata and also towns and villages like Gulbarga, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Ballarsha and Nashik. The companies are committed to become ‘Net Zero’ and help India become cleaner and greener.
