Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”), India’s largest telecommunications service provider, today announced its network expansion plans for FY 2018-19 to further expand its high-speed mobile data footprint in Goa.
As a part of its network expansion program – Project LEAP, Airtel announced its plans to scale up its high speed data network in the State by 30% by adding over 125 mobile broadband sites and 150 KMs of optic fiber, further enhancing the speed and voice capabilities of its network in the region. Airtel’s 4G network in the State also received a massive bandwidth boost of 5 MHz of 1800 MHz FD LTE spectrum with the completion of acquisition process of Telenor India, adding to customer experience on both voice and data front.
The expansion plan for FY 2018-19 follows a fruitful FY 2017-18 which saw over 215 new sites being deployed and over 100 KMs of optic fiber being rolled out in Goa, extending its mobile broadband footprint to 70 towns and 800 villages.

We will continue to invest aggressively in the region and expand our network capabilities with over 550 sites by the end of this financial year. The addition of 5 MHz of 1800 MHz FD LTE spectrum due to the acquisition of Telenor India has enriched our 4G capabilities in the State. With our enhanced speeds, reach and coverage, we also aim to contribute towards the Government’s vision of Digital India.”
With this planned roll-out, the number of Airtel’s mobile sites in Goa would go up by 30% to 560, further enhancing the data speed and voice qualities. The addition of fresh optic fiber would extend Airtel’s fiber backbone to 650 KMs, supporting the growth of high speed data services in the region.
