  • App-based Aquaculture Farming Proving to be a Boon for Farmers

By NE Reporter on September 2, 2019

    HYDERABAD:
A mobile and web app, which functions as a tool for tracking daily farm operations and netting reports for interval growth monitoring, is proving to be a boon for aquaculture farmers by enabling them to make smart decisions for their aquafarm operations.

The app, christened Aquamonk, has been developed by a Hyderabad-based marine sector company Savitri Aquamonk. It was displayed at the three-day Aqua Aquaria India (AAI) 2019, an initiative of the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) under the Union Commerce Ministry, which concluded here today.

“The app can help harvest tracking for total farm yield analysis. Besides, it gives a snapshot of data of all tanks, daily pond operations log, biomass growth reports and harvest data records,” said Kranthi Chand, CEO, Savitri Aquamonk. “It can, thus, considerably, ease the strenuous process of monitoring and tracking of aquafarm operations.”

Chand stated this while addressing a session on “Effective value chain in Shrimp farming through IOTs and AI”, on the sidelines of the fifth edition of AAI, a showpiece event of Asia’s aquaculture sector, at Hitex Exhibition Centre here. Noting that the app offers Artificial Intelligence (AI) prediction of feed requirement for better inventory management, he said: “The farmers have their own log books where they save the data. But they can’t save it for every crop. We digitize the whole data, and we not only save the data of all the crops they cultivate but also provide graphical interfaces so that they understand what the numbers mean.”

The company makes new hardware and software technology in shrimp aquaculture affordable and accessible to the farmers. It also offers technology-led solutions to aquaculture farming, especially for monitoring the L. vannamei shrimp culture.

“Farmers can take decisions based on numbers and data. They can take the right decision at the right time rather than a delayed or wrong decision-making. Lots of the problems they face are repeated ones. Previous problems like water and soil residual can be identified and when a similar scenario occurs they can take the right decision,” Chand said.

The graphical analytic tools, as a part of the Enterprise Resource Planning(ERP) software, will assist the farmers in drawing solutions and a detailed understanding of various aspects, he added.
