  • Citizens For Democracy Condemns Misuse of CBI by the Govt

By NE Reporter on June 12, 2017

    NEW DELHI:
The statement issued by the CBI in order to provide a justification for its raids at the premises of Prannoy Roy and his wife Radhika Roy, co-founders of NDTV, on 6th June,2017 is unconvincing. CBI in its statement has emphasised that its action against Roys is part of dues process of law but the timing and manner of the raid smacndtvks of vindictive action as the raids came soon after the incident when BJP spokesperson  Sambit Patra was rebuffed by an anchor of NDTV in a TV discussion on 1`st June and was asked to leave when he failed to apologize for accusing the NDTV having an agenda. Other questions which create doubts on the raids is as to why CBI should swing into prompt action on a complaint of a private person which has been lodged after 8 years as the alleged financial violations took place in 2008-2009 and the amount involved was only 48 crores. It is obvious that the CBI has been made to act under pressure from some of the highest in the government who resent a TV channel which appears to have refused to become mouthpiece of the governmental policies-whether right or wrong. In such a situation the statement made by Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu that’ there is no witch hunting’ and that ‘the law is taking its own course’ also appears to be a sham.
In such scenario the irrefutable conclusion which one is able to draw is that the government is using a premier investigative agency for its ulterior purpose of silencing those who refuse to toe its dotted lines. Citizens For Democracy appeal to all sections of society to resist this nefarious attempt to muzzle dissenting voices and stand united in order to save our democratic freedoms.
