  • India Skills Kerala 2018 – Three-day Competition Finale to Kick off with Grand Art and Culture Show

By NE Reporter on May 4, 2018

    KOCHI:
India Skills Kerala (ISK) 2018, the largest skill fest ever held in the state, will witness a rare combination of technology, art and culture in a grand inaugural on April 28 of the three-day competitions finale which will also host an exhibition featuring skill demonstrations and top class technology products, services and R&D.
The state–level competitions ISK 2018, jointly organized by the Industrial Training Department and Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE), will be held on April 28, 29 and 30 at Marine Drive here and inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
A total of 23 stalls will be set up at the venue as part of an exhibition across three categories. Besides stalls from the skilling partners and other organizations, there will be demonstrations of state-of-the-art technology products. These include Bandicoot, a semiautomatic robotic system that has been creating waves in the startup scene, and is soon to be pressed into service for manhole and sewer line cleaning, aiming at complete elimination of manual scavenging for the purpose.
Another exhibitor JCKRC Spa Destination will showcase their expertise in Foot Reflexology, Distress Massage and LPG (Machine treatment)/ Lipomassage treatment. Reflexology is an alternative medicine involving application of pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. Healthcare Sector Skill Council, yet another exhibitor will demonstrate how CPR is administered, the use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and how blood pressure is monitored etc.
The inaugural ceremony commencing at 6 pm at the Marine Grounds in Kochi on Saturday, will have a host of attractions including with 3D projection mapping, a laser show, an ultra-violet show, fire dances, Tanoura and Salsa performances and sand art.
3D Projection Mapping brings solid surfaces like faces of large buildings to life with dynamic and visually stunning animation and effects. As the curtain raiser a cut out of human face will be used as a backdrop for the 3D projection and the six-minute show will narrate the legacy and significance of the festival’s Mela’s mascot, Indra– the Peregrine Falcon.
The laser act will be a unique fusion of lights, lasers, magic and music for an exhilarating live entertainment experience. And the ultraviolet light (black light) show will have a performer creating artwork through trails left by fluorescent props in motion.
There will be performances of visually stunning fire dance as well as Tanoura, an Egyptian folk dance and Salsa, the popular Latin American social dance. Tanoura, which derives its name from the colorful skirt worn by the dancers, references the relationship of land and the sky, man and God, and will bring a rare experience for audiences in Kerala.
Sand animation, achieved through manipulation of sand will elaborate on the theme of the event — skilling in Kerala. The grand finale of the India Skills Kerala 2018 comes after grueling rounds of district and zonal competitions. Two participants from each trade were selected following the zonal competitions in Thiruvananthapuram, Chalakkudy and Kozhikode.
