K Sreekumar Takes Charge as new KFL Chairman

Senior CPI leader K Sreekumar has been appointed the chairman of Kerala Feeds Ltd (KFL), making him the eleventh head of the 1995-founded public sector undertaking that produces and sells compounded cattle feed and supplements at affordable rates.

Born in Karalam near Kallettumkara where KFL is headquartered in this district, Sreekumar’s father is late freedom fighter S.K. Nambiar. Kottuvale Kochammani Amma is his mother.

After schooling in nearby educational institutions, Sreekumar joined St Thomas College in Thrissur. The under-graduation years introduced him to active politics, leading him to become a member of the CPI-affiliated All India Students Federation. Sreekumar went on to become AISF district secretary, CPI Karalam branch member and the party’s Irinjalakuda unit assistant secretary.

Of late, Sreekumar, 68, is a member of the CPI’s district executive committee and its treasurer too. He has served as personal assistant to former ministers Dr A. Subba Rao and V.V. Raghavan besides Deputy Speaker P.K. Gopalakrishnan.

Sreekumar was elected to Thrissur District Panchayat from Kattoor division in 2000 and 2005. In his first stint, he served as vice-president to the local body and then as its president during the second tenure.

Having also served the District Planning Committee, Shri Sreekumar is also a cultural enthusiast. His wife, Pushpavathi, is a retired Junior Superintendent with the state’s Irrigation Department.

Sreekumar replaces K.S. Indusekharan Nair.
