THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Trivandrum Regional Co-operative Milk Producers Union (TRCMPU) of Milma celebrated the World Milk Day at its headquarters, Ksheera Bhavan, here today, recalling the services of dairy farmers in making India the world’s largest milk producing nation.
Addressing the function held to mark the day, TRMCPU Administrative Committee Convener N Bhasurangan said the country is greatly indebted to millions of dairy farmers in making India the world’s largest milk producing nation.
“We can’t ignore the services of dairy farmers in strengthening the country’s dairy sector,” Shri Bhasurangan said after the flag hoisting ceremony held as part of the World Milk Day celebrations.
TRCMPU Managing Director D S Konda said Milma has been largely instrumental in making Kerala self-sufficient in milk production, and placing the state on top in per capita milk production in the country.
Konda said TRCMPU will soon launch new products as part of stepping up the activities of the Union as well as assuring more income to dairy farmers.
Milma places great emphasis on quality, quantity and nutritious value of the milk it supplies to millions of households and other customers across the state. The milk collected through dairy cooperative societies undergoes various quality-ensuring processes in the dairy before being supplied to consumers. The milk is also further fortified with Vitamin A and D. Milma also ensures that each sachet contains 500 ml of milk.
Milma also stands out as it gives back 85 percent of the income generated from the sale of milk and its value-added products to the dairy farmers of the state.
