Three Decades of Growth; Technopark Turns 34 in IT Boom

Technopark, the first IT park in India and a light bearer of Kerala’s IT boom, turns 34 today (July 28). Technopark, which tells the story of the IT growth of the state and the capital, currently operates in five phases, covering an area of 760 acres and providing 10.6 million square feet of IT built-up space, housing 486 companies with around 72,000 workers across various campuses.Technopark has also generated around 1,000 new job opportunities and started 12 new companies in the last four months. Technopark’s software export revenue was Rs. 9,775 crore for the last fiscal year ie, FY21-22.

Technopark enters this new year with a proud legacy of its achievements along with the many plans for its future. ‘Brigade Square’, led by Brigade, constructed over an area of one acre with 1.85 lakh square feet and Rs 180 crore investment, and the 6 lakhs square feet ‘Carnival Building’ to be spread across 1.97 acres, are some of the upcoming projects in Technopark Phase 1. Taurus Downtown Trivandrum project is being built on 19.73 acres with 55.56 square feet at Rs.1800 crore in Phase 3.

The extensive plans for Phase 4 include the ‘TCS IT & ITES campus’ with 94 acres and 20 lakhs square feet of built up space at Rs 800 crore, ‘The Quad’, an integrated mini-township project with amenities such as IT buildings, shopping facilities, affordable housing, hospitals, and educational institutions on an area of approximately 30 acres at a cost of Rs 1,600 crore, has 40 lakh square feet built-up space in a single campus, ‘Kerala Space Park’ on 18.56 acres, ‘Digital Science Park’ of the Digital University of Kerala on 13.93 acres, The Emerging ‘Technology Startup Hub’ of the Kerala StartUp Mission on 3 acres of land, The campus of ‘SunTec’ built on 10 acres with 3.1 lakh square feet at a cost of Rs 3.1 crore is completed, Government of India projects viz, ‘MSME Centre’ in 9.5 acres and ‘Unity Mall’ in 2.5 acres are some of the projects that are underway. With the completion of these projects, Technopark Phase 4 will be the Destination Next for IT.

In addition to this, 118 acres of land in Technopark Phase 4 and 10 acres of land in Technopark Phase 3 campuses are available for long-term lease. Technopark Phase 4 and Technopark Kollam has 15,000 and 20,000 square feet of built-up space respectively available as IT warmshell to companies for short term lease. Additionally, discussions are also underway to transform Technopark Kollam into a ‘Workation Destination’ (with leisure and business under one roof) in collaboration with the tourism department.

We started our journey on 28th July 1990 and on this day we remember the immense contribution of our visionary leaders, founders and the team who have been associated with Technopark to lay a solid and robust foundation. Technopark has a rich heritage being the Asia’s first IT Park, Kerala’s pride and also the greenest IT Park in the world. It has been galloping on its growth trajectory with immense support of the Government with export earnings growing from 0.5 crores to 9775 crores. Technopark started off with 2 companies with 155 employees and today we are home to 486 companies and 72,000 employees. We extend our deep gratitude to all the IT companies , non-IT establishments, co-developers, various forums, and all entities directly or indirectly associated with Technopark for being the biggest brand ambassadors of Technopark. We are on the growth curve with expansion plans particularly in Technopark Phase 3 & 4 and also looking into the growth of Technopark- Kollam. Once again on this momentous occasion, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the govt, visionaries, IT/ITeS community, organisations under Kerala IT and all the well-wishers of Technopark for their unwavering support in our journey.” He stated.
