  • DP World Cochin Achieves 19% Growth in the First Quarter of 2018

By NE Reporter on April 5, 2018

    KOCHI:
Global trade enabler DP World operated India Gateway Terminal (IGTPL) witnessed a 19% increase in volume in the first quarter of 2018 compared to its performance in the first quarter of 2017. The terminal also handled the highest monthly volume of more than 52,000 TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) in March’18.
In the last fiscal year, the country’s first international transshipment gateway successfully handled a volume of more than 5.5 lakhs TEU. The terminal registered an increase in volumes due to its strong feeder connectivity along the Indian coasts; it is directly connected to ports at Mundra, Nhava Sheva, Goa, Mangalore, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Kattupalli, Krishnapatnam, and Tuticorin.
The exponential growth is due to the terminal’s constant endeavor of investing in technology and innovation, further enabling trade and facilitating ease of doing business. Bharat Trade, which is a Port Community System (PCS) provides a single window to customers and paperless transactions to the trade. The system has revolutionized container terminal operations at DP World and IGTPL is the first terminal in the country to successfully adopt it.
Jibu Kurien Itty, Chief Executive Officer, DP World Cochin said, “At DP World Cochin, we provide our customers with tailor made solutions in order to facilitate ease of doing business. We have been able to strengthen our connectivity through adequate feeder links coupled with strong intermodal rail connections and have further created an ecosystem valuable to our customers’ logistics supply chain. We are diligently working towards enhancing terminal efficiency with efforts channelized towards providing our customers with a cohesive experience while working with us.”
DP World Cochin serves as a natural gateway to the vast industrial and agricultural produce markets of the South and West of India. The terminal in the last two years has consistently maintained a high productivity level of Gross Crane Rate (GCR) of 31+ moves per hour and a truck turnaround time of 27 minutes, which is considered to be amongst the best international maritime standards. Improved road and rail connectivity have substantially reduced the transit time and logistics costs for the trade, making IGTPL a preferred gateway for exports and imports from/to the hinterland. The terminal is directly connected to crucial ports of Australia, Far East, South East Asia and Middle East through direct services.
IGTPL also vigorously works in association with its local NGO partners, neighbouring schools and hospitals. They have implemented various initiatives in areas of health awareness, women empowerment and the environment, which is in line with DP World’s global sustainability program ‘Our World Our Future’.
