  • ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ Cleanliness Fortnight, 2018

    THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
    As part of the ongoing ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign, a programme was organised at the Rail Kalyana Mandapam, Thiruvananthapuram on 18.09.2018.
    E.P. Jayarajan, Minister for Industries, Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. of Kerala, Shirish Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division, P. Jayakumar, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division, Dr. Mary Mathew, Chief Medical Superintendent, Thiruvananthapuram Division and other railway officials and staff participated in the programme.
    After Dr. Rajesh Chandran, Station Director, Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station welcomed the gathering, there were interactive sessions on Garbage Processing Technologies and Railways. Three different enterprises with expertise in the field of Garbage processing made presentations on Organic Waste Converter Machine, Waste to energy power plant and Anticorrosive and highly durable epoxy coating for addressing the problems of leakages.
    Addressing the gathering, E.P. Jayarajan, Minister for Industries, Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. of Kerala, appreciated the effort taken by railways to address the issue of maintaining cleanliness in stations. The minister stated that the development of a proper civic sense among rail users to adhere to the instructions displayed by railways in trains and stations itself will be a big step to bring a huge change in scenario.
    Shirish Kumar Sinha, DRM, Thiruvananthapuram Division said that Thiruvananthapuram division is steadfast in bringing visible results in cleanliness onboard trains and stations.
    Dr. Mary Mathew, Chief Medical Superintendent, Thiruvananthapuram Division appreciated the fact that the Swachhta movement, which began in 2014, has grown and intensified into a movement with mass participation. Awareness regarding cleanliness has improved among passengers and the public.
    A Nukkad Natak, seeking to raise awareness on cleanliness and eco-friendly lifestyle was presented by the NSS students of National Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram. Dr. Shobha Jasmine, Additional CMS, Thiruvananthapuram Division delivered the Vote of Thanks.
