  • DP World Cochin Registers Exponential Growth

By NE Reporter on January 8, 2019

    KOCHI:
Global trade enabler DP World operated India Gateway Terminal Pvt. Ltd. (IGTPL) delivered a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.57% in the past 3 years. This has surpassed the three year CAGR of 11.41% registered at all Indian ports. India’s first international transshipment terminal achieved an annual throughput of more than 574,000 TEUs this year and recorded its all-time highest monthly throughput of more than 52,000 TEUs in March 2018.

This growth is accredited to the terminal’s persistent efforts in enabling smarter trade solutions to deliver exponential value to customers and stakeholders. The installation of the RFID-based automated gate management system has improved truck turnaround time from 27 minutes in 2017 to 23 minutes in 2018. Further, the terminal has strategically aligned its operations to support various government initiatives to facilitate ease of doing business. The implementation of the DMICDC Logistics Data Services digital container tracking solution has boosted efficiency in supply chain operations.

The terminal is working closely with customers in the hinterland of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to provide faster turnaround of cargo. This has benefitted local importers and exporters as it reduces the cost of logistics and makes the supply chain more efficient.

Presently, the terminal boasts connectivity to Australia, Fareast, South-East Asia, Middle East, Europe and Mediterranean. With the close proximity of six hours to the hinterland, fast turnaround and increase in the cargo destined for the Far East and the US market, the terminal is poised to strengthen its connectivity with a direct service in its portfolio.

Praveen Joseph, Chief Executive Officer, DP World Cochin said, “At DP World Cochin, our emphasis continues to be on providing smarter trade solutions to our customers. We have been able to achieve growth and reinforce the confidence our customers and partners have in us and in our ability to service them. In the coming year, our focus continues to be on further enhancing our productivity and leveraging technology to facilitate a reliable and swift flow of cargo and further add value to the supply chain.”

In handling the customer’s cargo, IGTPL has consistently maintained a high productivity level of Gross Crane Rate (GCR) 31+ moves per hour, considered the best amongst international maritime standards. This performance has been achieved by leveraging technology to deliver value to customers through an in-house developed terminal operating system ‘Zodiac’ which is an integrated platform of Gate-Yard-Vessel-Movement and offers real-time execution with smart controls that enhances terminal efficiency and productivity. Along with a Port Community System ‘Bharat Trade’ which provides a single window to customers and paperless transactions to the trade.

The terminal has also undertaken numerous initiatives for the betterment of the communities in association with its local NGO partners to forward DP World’s ‘Our World, Our Future’ program.
