THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The discipline and imagination that T.M. Jacob displayed in his various ministries – water, education, culture and civil supplies – are examples to emulate for young parliamentarians, said KPCC President V.M. Sudheeran here today.
Making the inaugural address at a memorial function – organised by the T.M. Jacob Trust at the Press Club – to mark the forme
Sudheeran pointed to Jacob’s work in setting up a pre-degree board, instituting the Ezhuthachan and J.C. Daniel awards as Culture Minister and working closely with former Chief Minister K. Karunakaran in raising funds for the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbaserry.
Prof K.V. Thomas MP said that Jacob displayed his “signature touch while handling every policy issue”. “Considering the present setbacks in the PDS sector, I remember Jacob had expressed his concerns about Kerala’s scenario, which was moving backwards and not benefitting peo
ple fully,” he said.
Former Additional Chief Secretary Dr Babu Paul proposed that Jacob’s record as a parliamentarian be documented and made a case study in management schools.
Kerala Congress (Jacob) Chairman Johny Nelloor, Trust officials Anoop Jacob MLA, Daisy Jacob and Ambili Jacob, and journalist Sunnykutty Abraham spoke at the function.
The trust will carry out various social welfare activities as part of the commemoration. The death anniversary, which falls on October 30, will see special prayers held at the Attinkunnu church in Jacob’s hometown of Koothattukulam among other places.
