KOCHI:
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the celebrations of the Golden anniversary of the inception of ICSD and the silver jubilee of DYUTI Conference series on Tuesday in the Valley Campus of Rajagiri College of Social Sciences at Kakkanad.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Fr. Benny Nalkara CMI, (Provincial, S. H. Province, Kalamassery). The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dr. Manohar Pawar, President, International Consortium for Social Development (ICSD), Venu Rajamony, Chief Mentor, Strategic Initiatives (International), RCSS & Former Ambassador to the Netherlands) and Fr Dr. Saju M.D, Principal, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences (RCSS). 25th edition of DYUTI International Conference commenced on January 8 and will end on 14.
The international conference was organized under the auspices of Rajagiri College of Social Sciences and the International Consortium for Social Development (ICSD) on the theme Innovations in Social Work and Social Development: Uniting Communities across the Globe for Sustainable Change and it was a platform for academicians and industry experts to share and reflect on their experiences in advancing Social Development and Social Work and collaborate with organizations working in similar domains.
Chief Minister in his inaugural address mentioned that the government has initiated several initiatives to bring timely change in the state’s higher education field. Rajagiri is at the forefront of organizations that embrace the essence of such ventures and respond positively to opportunities. Since Saint Chavara’s contribution to Kerala’s social revival, the recognitions received by Rajagiri institutions in education today reveal exemplary interventions in this field.
Social sciences have an important role to play in accelerating sustainable development and change. Bringing the benefits of development to all and reducing socio-economic inequalities is the motto of sustainable development “Leave no one behind”. Kerala tops NITI Aayog’s sustainable development index. But we need to move forward in many areas, especially from the attitude of being a job seeker to being a job producer. Challenges emerging from development need to be rapidly overcome.
Social sciences can handle this better. Many initiatives need to be initiated in this area. Kerala currently has a good entrepreneurial environment. The international and national recognitions and positions that Kerala has received in this field are very prestigious achievements. This should be an inspiration to our youth to start new ventures.
