By NE Reporter on March 1, 2017

    KOCHI:
The positive intervention of music in lifting the moods of patients was evident from the beaming faces of the crowd gathered at the weekly, ‘Arts and Medicine’ show organised by Kochi Biennale Foundation at the Government General Hospital here, where noted singers Malavika K N and Anoop G Krishnan teamed up to deliver solemn renditions.Malavika&Anoop 2
The duo was also joined by singer Cochin Azad who began the show with the song, ‘Suk Ke Sab Saathi’ from the Hindi movie Gopi followed by Anoop who went on to render, ‘Janaki Jane’.
The duo, Anoop and Malavika presented 3 duets starting with the Tamil number, ‘Thendral Vanthu’ before moving on to , ‘Penninte Chenchundil’ and ‘Onnam Ragam Padi’. The singers delivered over 13 songs, a melange of Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil retro numbers for the receptive audience.
Malavika, a Central Government employee at India Post, who trained in music at a very tender age and won several prizes at the school and college level now participates in classical music kacheris and classical fusion performances besides a variety of stage shows like ‘Ganamelas’. She is presently training in music under the noted guru Brahmasree Chandramana Narayan Namboothiri.
Vocalist Anoop who hails from Tripunithura has lent his voice to 14 films like Janapriyam, Cleopatra, Vadhyar, Breaking News, Kohinoor, Drishyam, Kammatipadam and Kismath among others. He has also attempted music production for devotional music albums, advertisements, jingles etc.
The singers with their renditions mellowed the crowd comprising patients,
bystanders and hospital staff who in turn supported the duo with applause.
“The known benefits of music therapy at hospitals is an endeavour which has been tried and tested in many hospitals abroad and found to be efficacious in the long run”, said Anoop who has performed earlier at the same venue.
This modality of patient care in the hospital is an initiative of the Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with the Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Limited. This week’s episode marked the 159th edition of the musical extravaganza adopted to provide solace to the patients.
