MUMBAI:
Vietjet, Vietnam’s new-age airline, celebrates the delivery of its first Boeing 737-8 aircraft from the airline’s landmark order of 200 jets, valued at US$32 billion, with Boeing, the world’s leading aircraft manufacturer. The ceremony at Boeing’s Seattle Delivery Center in the U.S. state of Washington was attended by Vietnam’s President Luong Cuong, senior officials from both nations, and key industry partners.
The event, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of U.S.–Vietnam diplomatic relations, marks a major milestone in the growing partnership between Vietjet and Boeing, driving trade, investment, and the creation of hundreds of thousands of jobs in the U.S. It also underscores the airline’s commitment to expanding its international network while contributing to the sustainable development of the aviation industry regionally and globally.
The new aircraft, along with hundreds more to be delivered in the coming years, will be deployed on Vietjet’s high-demand regional markets, enhancing the travel experience for millions of passengers.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet, said: “The first Boeing aircraft received under this historic order is the result of nearly a decade of partnership between Boeing and Vietjet. It marks the start of hundreds more deliveries in the years ahead. This milestone strengthens bilateral trade, symbolizes the U.S.–Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and reflects our shared ambition to reach new heights in aviation. It also delivers real benefits to both economies and creates more jobs for the American people.”
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said: “On behalf of the Boeing team, we are honoured to join Vietjet in celebrating the airline’s first Boeing airplane. The 737-8 will support the airline’s network growth, opening new routes to serve Southeast Asia and reinforcing the strength of one of the region’s most dynamic new-generation airlines.”
For Indian flyers, Vietjet currently operates 10 direct routes connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru with Vietnam’s major cities, including Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City. These routes have become increasingly popular, offering convenient and affordable options for business and leisure travellers seeking to explore Vietnam and destinations across Asia-Pacific, while strengthening trade and people-to-people ties.
