Showcasing visual splendours of ‘God’s Own Country’ as a fascinating experiential destination, Kerala Tourism Department today opened its landmark all-India Photo Exhibition Lenscape Kerala at Hutheesing Visual Arts Centre here.
Renowned classical dancer and Chancellor of Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed to be University for Art and Culture, . Mallika Sarabhai inaugurated the exhibition, featuring 100 curated frames by 10 leading travel and media photographers of the country.
More than spotlighting Kerala as a destination, the exhibition captures vivid images of the state’s landscape, culture and memory, as seen by the participating photographers.
The show will run in the city till February 5, from 11 am to 8 pm.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Mallika Sarabhai said the exhibition stands out as it displays a set of fabulous photographs.
“When you look at a photograph, what is it that draws you in? I think kinetic energy, light and shade and three dimensionals. In dance photography, whether it’s static or whether it’s about to move, if you can capture that feeling when it’s about to jump, I think then you have succeeded,” she said.
In a message on the occasion, Kerala Tourism Minister Shri P A Mohamed Riyas said
“Gujarat and Kerala have strong cultural and economic connections, and visitors from the western states constitute a major segment of tourists to the state,” Shri Riyas said.
The photographers who contributed to Lenscape Kerala had travelled through different landscapes of Kerala for five days, covering a range of themes such as nature, wildlife, heritage, rural and coastal life, architecture, festivals and spirituality.
The exhibition is curated by eminent art curator and critic Uma Nair. Renowned wildlife and conservation photographer Shri. Balan Madhavan is the Director of Photography.
Uma Nair led a walkthrough after the inauguration. A four-minute behind-the-scene video –Frame Within a Frame—was also screened at the inaugural function.

he show features photographs of Aishwarya Sridhar, Amit Pasricha, H Satish, Kounteya Sinha, Manoj Arora, Natasha Kartar Hemrajani, Saibal Das, Saurabh Chatterjee, Shivang Mehta and Umesh Gogna, shot during their sojourn in Kerala during November and December last year.
A master class by two participant photographers, Natasha Kartar Hemrajani and Umesh Gogna, for aspiring photographers will also be held as part of Lenscape Kerala on Wednesday (February 4), from 2 to 4 pm.
After enthralling viewers in the city, the exhibition will move on to Mumbai (Feb 12-14), Pune (Feb 18-20), Bengaluru (Feb 27-Mar1), Chennai (Mar 4-7), Hyderabad (Mar 12-14), Kolkata (Mar 22-24) and will finally reach Surat on March 29 and come to a close on March 31.
