“The punishment to offenders envisaged by the anti ragging regulations will ruin their career in the chosen path”, said Dr. Kauser Edappagath, District & Sessions Judge & Chairman, District Legal Service Authority (DLSA).
He was inaugurating the University level Anti Ragging Awareness Campaign, jointly organised by DLSA, Department of Youth Welfare and Legal Aid Clinic of School of Legal Studies at Kunjali Marakkar School of Marine Engineering (KMSME) of CUSAT. Legislations against ragging have been made by the four states viz. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and West Bengal. Dr. Kauser explained in detail about the impact of ragging on both the subject and the perpetrator.
He exhorted the students to be career conscious and abstain from such barbaric activities which will destroy their profession. “Lack of formal complaints from the victims is impeding stringent action by institutions against the perpetrators”, said Vice Chancellor Dr. K N Madhusoodanan who presided over the function. The Vice Chancellor instructed the heads of various departments to convene meetings in their respective departments immediately and explain to the senior students about the aftermath of involvement in ragging and about the University’s policy of zero tolerance in the matter.
