By NE Reporter on January 18, 2017

    KOCHI:
Professional singer Vidhya Shankar and Geethu Gerome, who has sung for several music troupes, came together for a powerful performance at the General Hospital here today, as part of the 153rd edition of the weekly ‘Arts and Medicine’ show of the Kochi Biennale Foundation.
Vidhya Shankar, who reached the final stage in Season 4 of popular reality show ‘Idea Star Singer’, began the musical event with the evergreen Malayalam song ‘Nakshathra Deepangal Thilangi’, followed by other poAnM_Vidhya&Geethu (1)pular numbers.
In total the singers rendered a total of 15 songs in a mix of Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi and including duets with Geethu- ‘Kajara Mohabbat Wala’ (Hindi) and ‘Guruvayoorappa’ (Tamil) supported by a synchronised orchestra.
Both Geethu, a college lecturer and Vidhya Shankar a former bank employee devote time for music, their passion.
Today’s performance received enthusiastic applause from patients, hospital staff and bystanders who soaked in the therapeutic music emanating through the corridors and the sun-lit lawns of the Hospital.
“Music considered the language of the heart and the soul can rach out to those in distress and envelop them in its healing touch,” said vocalist Vidhya.
“Identifying the benefits of music and putting them to good use is the role of KBF here in the hospital, which is remarkable”, added Geethu.
Previously, Vidhya had released an album ‘Pucham’ with singer Sreenath and actor-cum-comedian Ramesh Pisharody on YouTube, which gained immense viewers.
The Palakkad native who resides in Kochi has an undeniable association with the General Hospital- his father-in law, Dr. Vinod Kumar headed the Oncology Department.
Geethu who teaches Sociology pursues singing in her free time. She has sung for music troupes and participates actively in ‘Pinnilave’ – music show on Janam TV.

The ‘Arts and Medicine’ show is organised every Wednesday by Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Limited, an initiative to offer solace to patients through therapeutic music.
