  • Biennale Music: ‘Upasana’ Music Club Singers Perform for Patients at General Hospital

    KOCHI:
    The singers of Upasana Music Club, Aluva today came together to deliver a musical treat for patients at the Government General Hospital here for the weekly ‘Arts and Medicine’ show organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation.
    Renowned writer and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award winner Gracy inaugurated the 161st edition of the show.
    “Music is a sublime form of art and all other artforms eventually converge in music. This initiativGracye of KBF can be emulated by other organisations too” said the writer celebrated for her collection of short stories, ‘Padiyirangipoya Parvati’, ‘Narakavathil’ , ‘Randu Swapna Darsikal’ , ‘Kaveriyude Neru’ , to name a few.
    The troupe rendered a medley of over 16 songs in Malayalam and Hindi, taking turns to sing to an audience which had gathered to listen on the hospital lawns.
    Troupe member Dr Sundaram Velayudhan began the programme with the song, ‘Thunchan Parambile Thathe’ followed by C. Sasidharan who rendered, ‘Tharaka Roopini’. Others from the troupe included Sreejith with ‘ Pramadavanam’ and ‘Anuragini’, Malavika with, ‘ Sri Rama Namam’, ‘Thane Thirinjum Marinjum’, Sasikumar with ‘ Maarivillin Thenmalare’, Iqbal with ‘ Mere Naina’ , Tomy with ‘Kuyilinte Mani Nadam’ amongst others.
    The Upasana music club includes singers who have retired from their professions and who are currently working in various fields. Dr. Sundaram Velayudhan retired as a Govt. Medical Officer, K Sasikumar is a retired Dist. Information Officer and C Sasidharan is a retired employee for IAC. Iqbal and Tommy run their business, Sreejith and Dhanapal are employed in private firms and Malavika K N works
    with the central government .
    “Performing on a stage for patients here in the hospital is a gratifying experience. The lit up faces of the crowd gives us the inspiration to deliver songs with fervour and devotion and thus offer solace to the patients” said Sasikumar, Secretary, Upasana.
    The weekly show is being organised in association with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Limited, is an initiative aimed to provide solace to patients through therapeutic music.
